I am a science writer, a runner, and a former engineer who likes to cook and loves to eat, especially when it involves food I’ve grown myself. I live and write in an old house in central Massachusetts. The Blind Pig is my first novel.
The banner photo was shot by James Rajotte at my sister’s wedding as her friend (who was also the officiant) scrawled the final edits to his ceremonial speech. Thanks, James, for giving me permission to use this photo!
My portrait was shot by Sue Teplansky of Teplansky Photography. Sue is my neighbor and we did this shoot in my front yard. I am so lucky to have so many incredibly talented people in my life! Thanks, Sue!
The poem referenced in this blog is “Oh Me! Oh Life!” by Walt Whitman. When I’m in need of inspiration, when I’m blocked, when I’m feeling like I just want to pack it all in, I stand up with my tattered and brittle copy of Leaves of Grass in hand. I turn to page 227 and I read this poem out loud.
It helps.

Elizabeth,
I’m part of a “Food” book club, where each month we read a novel where there is afood culture in the novel (not necessarily the major theme of the book like yours!). Your book is the October selection. we read, then gather at an appropriate restaurant to eat and discuss.
looking forward to your book (just bought through create space) i’m a writer, too, and after not finding an agent for my mystery-thriller am probably going to charge into the self-publishing world. wish you luck and will keep checking in here on your blog to see how you are doing and learn from your success!
good luck, and keep writing!
Hi Scott,
I’m so excited that your book club will be reading The Blind Pig! I’d love to hear how the meet goes (and, more important, what you all end up eating for dinner!).
I’m attaching a link to some book club questions that accompany the book, just in case your group likes that kind of thing. Some groups have had a lot of fun with these.

Best of luck with your own writing and publishing!
Best,
Elizabeth
